At breakfast, the service was a little slow - we waited for our food for a long time - and the menu not very different to Mario's. Superb, as told the staff repeatedly! Eleanor's, an al fresco French restaurant by the beach, also served breakfast and dinner. The main courses were excellent: I had the swordfish twice - cooked to perfection both times - and the steak, also cooked exactly as I like it. My husband was especially enamoured with the Italian sausage and pastas. Dinner there was a different matter all together, quite wonderful! The starters are served in the form of a generous buffet, which caters for most tastes and diets. The breakfast is the basic order with fruits and baked goods with omelettes and stuff - nothing extraordinary, but all OK. Mario's, an Italian affair, was open for breakfast and dinner. And I want to express my thanks for the restaurants for taking allergies so seriously - I always felt safe in the knowledge that I could eat what I had ordered. The restaurants had new menus, which was great. There's another, quieter pool with its own pool bar, which we didn't use this time, but have used in the past. The main pool of handily near both the Mediterranean Village and the Caribbean Cove. There's also the pool to escape to, if you feel uncomfortable. However, a polite, but stern 'No thank you' will suffice for keeping them away. August is quiet time in Antigua in terms of tourism, so the vendors can get quite desperate. It's a public beach, so you will have vendors approaching you quite often. They were pure gold! Such a fun holiday, thanks so much to them! As for the rest of the resort, Dickenson Bay with its white sand and turquoise lapping waves is one of the best beaches in the Caribbean. They surprised us with bubble baths, wrote words of love signs on our bed, brought us cool cocktails on a hot day, sprinkled flowers on our dinner tables and twisted towels not just into swans but even into our look-a-likes! But, more importantly, they made sure that everything ran absolutely smoothly - whether it was the place in the beach or pool or a reservation to Eleanor's or anything we needed, tours and activities included.

They looked after us, spoiled us, and anticipated our needs before we could even think of them. (Take heed honeymooners!) But what really made our holiday was our four Butlers (normally you'd only have three): at first we had the lovely Vakesha, Julian, Hunter and then Jeneva, who joined us in the middle of our holiday. Our minibar was checked and filled every day according to our wishes and snacks were brought in to keep us filled between lunch and dinner. There's also a jacuzzi in the bathroom and outside. The plunge pool was great - checked and cleaned every day. The room was lovely, very roomy, very clean and rather new with his and hers sinks (always a good idea). We stayed in the Butler serviced Mediterranean plunge pool village this time, although we normally prefer the Caribbean Cove for its rustic charm. Of course, there are things to improve, but more about those later. We've been to the resort twice before and on this our third visit we found out that it just keeps getting better. We will return to try the restaurants we were never able to go to due to their closure due to the storm More Show less If you are not fussed, bearing in mind you can of take any drinks back to your room anyway, then I would question the value of going club level.

Go club level or not? If you want to drink in your room then probably go club level as there is a well stocked mini bar. The staff worked hard to reopen what they could as quickly as they could but the clean up required was massive. The staff despite facing difficulties and hardships themselves remained remarkably cheerful and helpful. All restaurants and bars closed Tuesday pm and a buffet meal was offered for dinner, breakfast and lunch into Wednesday. The hotel general manager and his staff did a magnificent job keeping us informed of the storm progress and what services in the hotel would/wouldn't be available. On the Tuesday night Hurricane Irma hit Antigua. It was our first time to a Sandals resort. We stayed in a club walkout room on the Mediterranean side.
